Im Alex Drury, a contemporary artist living in beautiful bend, Oregon. Originally from the UK I find myself here surrounded by incredible views trying, like many others, to capture the landscape around me in a way that reflects my journey. I live with my husband and two daughters, and when I’m not chasing them you can find me experimenting in the kitchen or playing board games.
If you have any questions about my work, lets chat.
I lose myself to paint and paper, letting the water lead rather than the other way around. I begin with watercolor then tear it apart intentionally creating shapes and spaces for the landscape to form. I then bring them together with mixed media details like small quiet echoes, marks that settle into the surface and hold the pieces together. The tearing of the paper is essential. Breaking is not destruction, but transformation. Fragments shift, overlap, and find new structure.
The process mirrors my own lived experience. The reshaping that happens through life and specifically my journey with loss and living with chronic pain. Each layer carries its own fracture yet together they create something whole. IN the studio I find space and peace beyond my body, a space a breath and a place imagined becoming real. I hope this work offers a sense of stillness and quiet strength to all who encounter it.
